A special lecture on “Plasma-assisted Synthesis of Nanomaterials” was delivered by Professor Mohan Jacob, Associate Dean of Research Education at James Cook University, on 9 February 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Convergence Academia Complex.The lecture focused on advanced plasma-based techniques for the synthesis of graphene, particularly Radio Frequency (RF) Plasma and Microwave Plasma methods. He elaborated on their efficiency, scalability, and environmentally friendly nature compared to conventional synthesis routes. The graphene produced through these plasma-assisted approaches exhibits excellent electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties, making it highly suitable for applications in flexible and printed electronics, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, energy storage devices, sensors, and high-performance composite materials.Professor Jacob also provided valuable insights into microwave-assisted pyrolysis, emphasizing the sustainable conversion of waste materials into value-added carbon-based products. He highlighted how such approaches contribute significantly to circular economy initiatives and sustainable material development.During his visit, Professor Mohan Jacob visited the Innovation Centre at MG University and appreciated the ongoing research activities and collaborative opportunities in the University.

The event was organised by Professor Sabu Thomas, Director of the International and Inter University Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, in association with the School of Energy Materials and the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The session witnessed active participation from students, research scholars, and faculty members. His talk strongly encouraged and inspired young researchers and students to explore emerging areas in plasma processing and sustainable nanomaterials. The lecture concluded with an energetic and engaging interaction session, where he addressed several insightful questions from the audience, making the programme both intellectually enriching and highly motivating.
